Jingya Li | AvataR - "Games and social motivation to improve language skills"
Jingya is both designer and researcher affiliated with Eindhoven University of Technology. She develops the concept "AvataR: Turning your book into a game". The concept is intended for expats in The Netherlands who have children attending primary school. Children who are new to the Netherlands experience a challenge to adapt in their new environment: learning a new language and making new friends can be tough.
Thanks to Jingya's concept, children can work on their language and social skills while playing. This is done using augmented reality embodied in a reading book. It stimulates the child to continue reading, practice a foreign language and to seek interaction with other children. The well-being of the child is improved and they feel welcome in the new country.
