💫 The Next XR Talent Program

The program is part of the talent program Playgrounds has been running since 2016. The Next XR Talent Program is the longest running talent program for IX in The Netherlands with a strong network of partners.

In collaboration with immersive director Nienke Huitenga Broeren, our aim is to motivate creators who are seeking to broaden or deepen their expertise in interactive, immersive, and XR-driven experiences. We are dedicated to supporting those who wish to expand their creative horizons, as well as those eager to further specialize and refine their practice within these blossoming fields.

🎨 For all makers
The Next XR Talent program will select 6 participants. Whether you’re mid-career, an emerging star, or an established virtuoso seeking a new artistic horizon, this is your stage. – Please be aware you will enter a group with mixed work experience and different levels of understanding XR and immersive media.

đź’ˇ Focus

The focus of the program extends beyond the technical aspects; first and foremost we want to delve deep into your practice as a creator, your needs, and the role of immersive storytelling. The program will invite you to actively explore your current approach, positioning as a maker and connections to the network and reflect and discuss new paths and ideas with the selected group of creators.

However, we believe in learning by doing, and research by making. Therefore, we are looking for creatives who want to join the program and bring an early-stage project that would benefit the time and space to think, test and tinker. Your talent development is the main objective; the project serves as both a vehicle and a foundation for achieving this growth.

We ask all participants to present their findings of this process (about themselves and the project) in March 2027 to the network of Playgrounds and professionals of the Immersive Art field during a public presentation.

Criteria

  • The minimum amount of work experience in the field as a creative should be 2 years.
  • We are open to receiving proposals that explore XR as a new addition to your practice. In other words, it can be your first rodeo in XR and immersive art.
  • We are also here for makers who apply to deepen or refine their immersive and XR craft or develop an early-stage idea for a new work.

The program is initiated by Playgrounds, based in Eindhoven Noord-Brabant, one of three film talent hubs in The Netherlands. Therefore, we welcome all applications, but make our final selection based on geographical distribution. We especially want to stimulate talent and experienced makers who live and have strong connections to the provinces of Noord-Brabant, Limburg, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Gelderland, Groningen, and Zeeland to apply.
